According to data from Karnataka’s population-based cancer registry, over 9,800 new cases of breast cancer are estimated to be diagnosed in Karnataka each year, apart from a prevalence of nearly 30,000 cases. The survey was taken as part of breast cancer awareness month, observed in October.

Bengaluru was placed third in the country after Hyderabad and Chennai till last year. On the other hand, in 2022, the incidence of breast cancer in Bengaluru jumped to the second highest at 40.5 per lakh, followed by the highest incidence rate in Chennai. In Chennai, 42.2 lakhs breast cancer cases were reported this year.

According to Karnataka’s Population-based Cancer Registry (PBCR), this is a huge increase in Bengaluru when compared with the AAR of 15 lakh in 1982.
